Amavisd-new is a high-performance interface between mailer (MTA) and content checkers: virus scanners, and/or SpamAssassin. It is written in Perl for maintainability, without paying a significant price for speed. It talks to MTA via (E)SMTP or LMTP, or by using helper programs.

It filters the actual content of pages based on many methods including phrase matching, PICS filtering and URL filtering. It does not solely filter based on a list of banned sites like commercial filters do.
Download Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP server. It is designed to provide DNS and, optionally, DHCP, to a small network. It can serve the names of local machines which are not in the global DNS. The DHCP server integrates with the DNS server and allows machines with DHCP-allocated addresses to appear in the DNS with names configured either in each host or in a central configuration file. Dnsmasq supports static and dynamic DHCP leases and BOOTP for network booting of diskless machines.
Download Dovecot is an open source IMAP and POP3 server for Linux/UNIX-like systems, written with security foremost in mind. Although it's written in C, it uses several coding techniques to avoid most of the common pitfalls. Dovecot can work with standard mbox and Maildir formats and it's fully compatible with UW-IMAP and Courier IMAP servers' implementation of them, as well as mail clients accessing the mailboxes directly. It's easy to migrate from them to Dovecot. Dovecot will also soon have its own high performance mailbox format called dbox. Perhaps some day in future Dovecot will also support storing mails in SQL databases.
