Michael D. Proper, Chairman of the Board
Michael Proper is the Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer of DirectPointe.
Mr. Proper also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors, and he assists
in the Board functions independently of management in order to maintain and enhance
the quality of the corporate governance at DirectPointe. He presides with the company's
vision of making technology simple, manageable, and affordable to further develop
the strategic position of the business.
Over the past 12 years, Mr. Proper has helped start and grow numerous companies.
Prior to founding DirectPointe, he helped launch and establish Veritas Solutions
and Calculated Research & Technology where he facilitated the growth of annual revenues
by over 950 percent over a 5 year period. Mr. Proper is responsible for establishing,
directing, and executing DirectPointe's unique service model by offering a holistic
approach to managing IT services.
Jack W. Sunderlage, Board of Directors
Mr. Sunderlage is currently the CEO of ContentWatch, an Internet protection company.
He also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Utah Technology Council
where he has been a trustee since 1991. Mr. Sunderlage has held executive positions
with Burroughs, UNISYS, Digital Equipment, Compaq Computer, and Hewlett-Packard.
His most recent assignment was Vice President of Global Accounts, West Region for
the Compaq division of Hewlett-Packard. Other current board positions include Content
Watch and Engage Thoughtware.
In 2004, Jack was selected to the vSpring v100, a group of the top capital entrepreneurs
in Utah. Jack received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Economics
from Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Executive education consists of leadership
coursework at Babson College, Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Alan D. Ayers, Board of Directors
Mr. Ayers has a background that includes sales, management, executive leadership,
and teaching. He is currently a member of the Million Dollar Round Table and owns
his own financial advisory firm. Prior to starting a financial advisory practice
of American Express Financial Advisors, Mr. Ayers was employed at Headwaters, Inc.,
a billion dollar Energy Technology Company. He served at Headwaters from 1995 to
1999 in several positions including Director of Investor Relations, Vice President
of Administration, and COO. He also served on the company's Board of Directors.
Mr. Ayers helped forge key relationships with many Fortune 500 companies, and he
was also instrumental in developing several strategic programs with financial partners.
These programs funded over $250 million for synfuel project construction around
the United States.
Prior to his Headwaters career, Mr. Ayers was Director of Retail Operations for
two locally owned retail store chains. While there, he was instrumental in establishing
key contracts with strategic customers. He also managed company resources and helped
grow the top-line while driving bottom line results.
Mr. Ayers received an MBA from the David Eccles School of Business at the University
of Utah where he was also an adjunct professor of Finance.
Phillip J. Windley, Board of Directors
Dr. Windley is a nationally recognized expert in using information technology (IT)
to add value to businesses. He regularly consults with businesses on this topic
and is particularly interested in the areas of interoperability, web services, XML,
and digital identity. Dr. Windley is a frequent author and speaker on these topics
and writes a blog at www.windley.com. He is the author of an upcoming book from
O'Reilly on digital identity.
Dr. Windley is also an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Brigham Young
University. Prior to joining BYU, he served from 2001 to 2002 as the Chief Information
Officer (CIO) for the State of Utah, serving on Governor Mike Leavitt's Cabinet
and as a member of his Senior Staff. In this capacity, he was responsible for effective
use of all IT resources in the state and advised the Governor on technology issues.
During his tenure, the State was repeatedly recognized by many national groups for
its excellence in the areas of IT and eGovernment.
Dr. Windley received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California,
Davis in 1990. Prior to graduate studies, he worked for 4 years as a nuclear metallurgist
and was a member of the technical staff at the Division of Naval Reactors in Washington,
D.C. In this capacity, he performed the duties of overseeing nuclear core and plant
material testing in the Advanced Test Reactor. Dr. Windley also served as an Engineering
Duty Officer in the US Naval Reserve which included 5 years on active duty and 9
years as a drilling reservist.
Ronald E. Heinz, Jr., Board of Directors
Mr. Heinz is the Chief Executive Officer of the Canopy Group and Chairman of the
Board of Helius. He has more than two decades of experience in the technology sector.
Mr. Heinz was the CEO of Helius and Phobos Corporation, both Utah-based technology
companies. Phobos was acquired by SonicWALL of Sunnyvale, California (SNWL) in December
2000. Post-merger, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Sr. Vice President at
SonicWALL. Mr. Heinz additionally spent 12 years at Novell Inc., serving as a Corporate
Officer and Sr. Vice President his last 4 years. Prior to Novell, he was employed
at Xerox.
Mr. Heinz received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Virginia Polytechnic Institute
and an MBA in Finance from American University. He has also participated in post-graduate
work at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and at Northwestern Kellogg School
of Management.
Ty Mattingly, Board of Directors
Mr. Mattingly has a proven track record with many of Utah’s most successful technology
companies. He is currently managing director of Primary Colors, a private equity
firm, and has been an angel investor for the past 10 years for technology companies,
including Omniture. As a co-founder of SBI-Razorfish and Novonyx, he led both companies
to successful acquisitions. At SBI he helped establish the company as the leading
interactive marketing firm in the country, which was ultimately acquired for more
than $6 billion to become the foundation for Microsoft’s interactive marketing and
advertising initiatives, and Novonyx, a joint venture between Netscape and Novell,
was acquired by Novell. Mattingly also served in a number of executive positions
at Novell, where he worked directly with Ray Noorda and Bob Frankenberg in managing
the company.
